Six-Word Short Story Contest

Students in grades 6 - 12 are challenged to write a story with just six words. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

May is Short Story Month and the Oshkosh Public Library is celebrating by challenging any 6th-12th grader to write a story with just six words! Legend says Ernest Hemingway won a contest with this six-word story: "For sale: baby shoes, never worn."
Think you can do better? Now is your chance! Teens may submit one original six-word story.

The contest is open May 1 through May 31, 2019.
Winners will be announced the first week of June.
Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place writers.

Need some ideas or inspiration? Check the library's Facebook page beginning May 1 for weekly writing prompts. (Contest submissions are not required to follow these prompts; they are being provided to help develop ideas and stories.)

Submit entries here beginning May 1.
