COVID-19 Response: Our Roving Readers program is temporarily suspended.
Roving Readers are trained volunteers who go out to child care centers, pre-school classes and other community settings to read stories to groups of children.
Become a Roving Reader volunteer!
Sharing the magic of books and reading with children is fun and rewarding. No experience is necessary - just a love of books and children. After a training session with a children's librarian and a practice session with a group of children, you're ready to get started. You'll work with the library's Coordinator of Volunteers to set up a schedule that works for you (typically weekdays during the day). As a Roving Reader, you will help to inspire a love of reading that can last a lifetime! Contact the library's Coordinator of Volunteers at 236-5206 to sign up or use our volunteer application form.
"I thoroughly enjoy being able to share my love of reading with children. I believe reading is so important in a child's development and you can't start motivating a child to read too soon."
-- Dick Campbell, longtime Roving Reader
